Canadian American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actress Alanis Morissette, had her first major label record deal in 1991, when she signed with MCA Records Canada. Her debut album, Alanis, was released the same year in Canada only. The album went platinum, launching the singles "Too Hot", "Walk Away" and "Feel Your Love", and led to Morissette winning the 1992 Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year. Her second studio album, Now Is the Time (1992), was also released in Canada and launched three top 40 singles. After her two-record deal with MCA was completed, Morissette signed with Maverick records, who released her third studio album, Jagged Little Pill, internationally that year. The album launched six hit singles (including her biggest hit to date, "Ironic"), and it stayed in the top 20 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for over a year. It sold more than 16 million copies in the U.S., and a total of 33 million worldwide, making it the second biggest-selling album by a female artist. The album was certified twelve-times platinum in her native Canada, and won six Juno Awards. She also won Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, Best Rock Song (both for "You Oughta Know"), Best Rock Album and Album of the Year at the 1996 Grammy Awards. Throughout her career, Morisette has received seven Grammy Awards and 12 Juno Awards, and she has sold over 75 million records worldwide. Her ninth studio album is due for release in 2018.
