What is it that draws-in sports and basketball-loving fans to watch the WNBAs?  It’s the heart and soul of women.  Basketball may be a man’s world, yet women in basketball add an air of mystique and an unexplainable whiff empowerment.  Two impassioned teams will be heating up the hard court over at the Mohegan Sun Arena – CT,  Uncasville, Connecticut:  the Connecticut Suns vs. New York’s Liberty.  Will the Suns shine with a dazzling win?  Or will the flames of victory burn for New York’s Liberty?  Find out and cheer on for your favorite team on the 25th of August 2013. Game begins at 5:00 pm.

 

The New York Liberty team is turning on a new leaf, so to speak — a new coach, many new players, and a new outlook on keeping their eyes on the prize.  “Defensively, we want to use our physical strength and athleticism to play a smothering, aggressive defense with the emphasis on no second shots,” says new coach Bill Laimbeer. “We have built a team that is big and strong at all positions with defense in mind.”  The New York Liberty team is currently based in Newark, New Jersey.  It takes pride on its distinguished WNBA alumnae –Teresa Weatherspoon, Becky Hammon, University of Utah player Leilani Mitchell, and Rutgers player Cappie Pondexter.

 

The team Connecticut Sun is based in  Uncasville, Connecticut, and is owned by the  Mohegan Indian Tribe.  The Sun takes pride that they are the only team (apart from the defunct Miami Sol) to have less than 20 losses in a season.  The Sun has had notable set of distinguished players –the late 7-foot-2 Margo Dydek, Indiana native Katie Douglas, veteran sharpshooter Kara Lawson, University of Connecticut icons Asjha Jones and Nykesha Sales, 2008 MVP runner-up point guard Lindsay Whalen and 2012 MVP recipient Tina Charles.
