El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico at Mohegan Sun Arena

One of the longest-running salsa ensembles, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, is bringing its world-class performances back to the stage at Mohegan Sun Arena. Since its conception in 1962 by Rafael Ithier, El Gran Combo has charmed and amazed audiences around the globe for six decades with its alluring take on salsa music. Regarded as one the most successful salsa orchestras to exist, "La Universidad de la Salsa" is a moniker given to the group for having several successful salsa musicians and singers receiving their breakthroughs with the band.

60 years since its formation, El Gran Combo continues to bring salsa music to concert venues around the world. Founder Rafael Ithier remains to be the music director of the group, the only original member to remain in the band.

In year 2000, the band was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame. In 2002, after their 40th-anniversary concerts in Puerto Rico, the orchestra was awarded a Billboard Latin Music Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2015, El Gran Combo bagged a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and an ASCAP Latin Heritage Award two years later.
