When you think of alternative rock, one distinct band comes to mind — the Smashing Pumpkins! Catch them on tour, and they’re coming to Uncasville, Connecticut for a one-night only show at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday, December  2, 2012.  Show starts at 7:00 pm.

 

During their heyday in the 90s, they defied the mould set by grunge pillar acts such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam.  They were the ‘alternative’ amongst the garage-punk influenced bands that mushroomed during that era. They produced a unique amalgam of sounds, densely packed with heavy guitars, goth, metal, dream pop, trippy psychedelia, shoegaze, and electronica.  Mainman Billy Corgan, who functioned as lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and chief songwriter was mainly responsible for the band’s out-of-the-box music and career direction.  The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands of the 1990s, selling millions of albums and packing concert stadiums all over the world.

The original line-up of Smashing Pumpkins have long gone their separate ways.  Billy Corgan is the lone founding member who has pursued his career path as Smashing Pumpkins, with a rotating line-up of studio and touring band members.  Smashing Pumpkins has recently released their studio album entitled “Oceania”, and they’ve embarked on a world tour in support of this album.
