In 2005, New York City-based friends and collaborators Wesley Schultz (lead vocals, guitar) and Jeremiah Fraites (drums, percussion) formed The Lumineers. Five years later, the folk-rock twosome moved to Denver, Colorado and met Neyla Pekarek (cello, vocals), who joined the band to form a trio. In 2011, they signed a management deal with Onto Entertainment, and released their debut single "Ho Hey" later that year. "Ho Hey" was an instant success for the band, staying at number one for 18 non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard Rock Songs chart, as well as two weeks in the top spot on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and eight weeks in the top spot on the Adult Pop Songs chart, as well as reaching number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The single preceded their self-titled debut album, which was released in 2012, peaking at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and gaining multi-platinum sales in the UK and Canada. After finding similar success with their second album, Cleopatra, Pekarek departed the band in 2018 to focus on her solo career. The Lumineers third studio album, III, is released this year.
